Justification for OVC program

Justification for OVC program
  • Available Bursary only focusing the Higher levels Currently in Kenya there number of bursary programs at the national government level, County level, constituency level and at community level. However they only focus on students at secondary, tertiary and university institutions. This is leaving the vulnerable students at primary and nursery to suffer. We believe that accessing a quality basic education at nursery and primary level give a child an opportunity to access quality secondary and tertiary or university education. Denying children access to quality basic education, denies them completely a brighter future.

  • National free education programs do not focus on the ECDE The free primary education in Kenya has resulted to over enrolment in most public schools causing overcrowding in public. This has resulted to a compromise quality education given the high teacher-student ratio. It is important to note that quality education is key to student’s personal development in the early child development. At Javic therefore, we focus on quality of education to all by making it affordable and accessible. Other reasons for having OVC program are: high cost of education that make most parents not able to afford and long distance from home to school which mostly affect the young students. On the other hand, HIV epidemic and other chronic illnesses has contributed to the devastating condition in the community. A number of children have lost one or both parents due to such illnesses, and many more others are living with sick caregivers. This leaves children vulnerable to a range of poor outcomes, including dropping out of school, early marriage, transactional sex, and HIV infection.
